What are the best baby bottles?
1. Dr. Brown’s offers a patented ventilation system that many mom’s swear by.
The company claims that their vented design reduces, and prevents colic, and many mom agree! While some mom’s prefer to use Dr. Brown’s exclusively, other moms like to have a set on hand just in case of colic to help get through the difficult time, and will then switch back to their preferred bottle- whatever that may be.
- Patented Anti-Colic Design
- Offers multiple sizes for bottles and nipples
- Affordable on any budget
- Complicated to put together
- Lots of parts mean more to clean
2. The AVENT Natural features anti-colic valves in the bottle that push air back into the bottle rather than into your baby’s tummy.
But this bottle still has a simple design that makes it a snap to clean and assemble. And, it’s nipple has molded petal shapes at the base to increase softness and flexibility of the nipple without collapsing under a hungry baby’s sucking motion; this is great for babies frequently going between breast and bottle feeding.
- Perfect for Breast to Bottle to Breast
- Offers multiple sizes in bottle and nipple
- Known for its anti-colic vent
- Can get messy – Milk gets easily stuck in the lip of the nipple
3. Playtex VentAire is loved by many mommies and babies.
The angled design allows air to flow up and back, never into your baby’s mouth. Many moms swear by these bottles for colic-prevention. These bottles can be tricky, however, when it comes to cleaning and travel. While they won’t give baby a tummy ache, they may give mommy a headache due to many reports that they can leak when traveling if not used with the exclusive travel bag set.
- Drop in Liner design for minimal washing
- Great for Mom’s on the Go
- Extra waste due to liners
- Cost of Liners can add up
4. Tommee Tippee curved bottle makes for easy holding by mom and baby!
Made from polypropylene, the Tommee Tippee can be used with three types of stretchy, flexible nipples that have an extra-wide base, made to mimic the shape and movement of a woman’s breast. Also, the Tommee Tippee Starter Kit includes its own bottle and nipple sterilizers.
- Ergonomic Design
- Perfect for Breast to Bottle to Breast
- Nipple actually shaped like breast
- No data found on colic prevention

Every Mommy Needs Baby Bottles
Now here’s a healthy dose of truth. Your baby is going to eat, because you are going to feed him. Whether you are breastfeeding or formula feeding, you will also need to buy some bottles. Very rarely can a breastfeeding mom actually get away with not having any bottles in the house.
Most breastfeeding moms still pump. Why? Because sometimes you need to let down your milk and the baby is actually not hungry (for once!) And sometimes, you have doctor’s appointments or social events that you want to attend without having to stop to latch your hungry little one. That’s where your ideal baby bottles come into play.
The Painful Truth About Colic
Are you a first time mom and can’t explain why your baby screams for hours at specific times of the day? This is a major indication of colic. The truth is that no one definitively knows what colic is but scientists best guess is that it is related to swallowing too much air when eating.
This can be the result of air bubbles in your babies bottle, a reaction to a particular brand of baby formula, or a poor latch when breastfeeding. Yes, even breastfed babies can get colic. If you know that you have a family history of colic, or this is not your first baby and first go round with the painful screams of misery, you should seriously consider getting yourself a set of Dr. Brown’s Patented Anti-Colic Bottles or a couple of the Playtex Ventaire bottles, which are angled to push air towards the back of the bottle, and not into your baby’s mouth.
The fact is, most mom’s aren’t completely satisfied with the first set of bottles that they try out. Many families will actually experiment with multiple brands until they find one that they like best. This favoritism can stem from how baby takes the nipple, to how gassy baby is after eating, how easy it is to clean the bottles, which bottles actually stay secure and don’t leak in the diaper bag, and much more.
Here’s a safety tip to consider as well: in 2012 the FDA made it illegal for companies to manufacture bottles using BPA. This type of plastic compound was found to be toxic and slowly seeping into bottles and mixing with baby’s formula/milk. In 2017, ALL baby bottles are supposed to be BPA free.
That said, do not use old plastic baby bottles unless you are absolutely sure that they were made after 2012. One way to avoid the risk of BPA all together is to go with glass bottles, which a lot of moms opted for when the truth about BPA was exposed. But be careful, because glass will shatter if dropped!
You know your lifestyle and what you can handle. While we are not comparing glass bottles in our evaluations here, there are some impressive glass bottle gift sets available on Amazon. Check out Evenflo Feeding Vented Classic Glass Set.
